ALPINE BUILDINGS

A transformative refresh for a 30-year-old business

Alpine Buildings is a family-owned business based in Timaru, who have been supplying Aotearoa with a much-needed product for the last 30 years; the humble shed. But there are sheds, and then there’s Alpine.

Alpine were seeking a voice that would acknowledge their rich heritage, while carrying them into the future. We undertook a truly transformative refresh for the established business, with repositioning, brand strategy and identity refresh. We learnt through our immersion process that Alpine was already seen as a market leader in their category; both for quality of product and materials, and impeccable service. Essentially, Alpine already had the product and the service, but the brand identity needed to catch up to its own premium positioning.

Our task was to build Alpine a foundational brand strategy, and to leverage this to create a strong visual identity that would stand the test of time. While their competitors were fighting it out in the long list of features and benefits, for Alpine, it was about elevating out of the factual weeds and having the confidence to leave these details as a secondary component. People often talk about a ‘Forever Home’, so through our strategy work, we wanted Alpine to own the space of ‘Forever Shed’. This spoke to the shared mindset of the Alpine customer, and the quality of their products — built to last — for generations.

We took inspiration from outside of the category, introducing a fitting ‘ruggedly refined’ premium aesthetic. We leveraged Forever Shed to create a strong visual identity that will stand the test of time; with visual cues that emphasise Alpine’s rich history, and a contemporary look and feel that will carry them into the future. The why for Alpine? To create buildings that endure, and legacies to be proud of.
